Informal Appraisal District Meeting

County appraisal district informal meeting
County appraisal districts typically offer an informal meeting to review an appeal. You may discuss your objections concerning your assessed value, exemptions, special appraisal, and errors. Provide the necessary documentation. You may resolve your issues before the formal Appraisal Review Board hearing. This would save you time and preparation for a formal hearing. There is a big difference from one county appraisal district to another. Some are easier to work with than others.

Generally, informal discussions take place during May. Check with your county appraisal district to find out more precisely the dates that informal appeals begin and end.

Prepare for the meeting by gathering facts. Be prepared to provide evidence to back up your request for an appraised value reduction or exemption. You are unlikely to be successful if you do not provide evidence. Go to our Real Estate Valuation section for information on how to prepare for an assessed value appeal.

The county appraisal district has no control over the appraisal district's operations or budget, tax rates for local taxing units, or local politics. It does not help your position to discuss these issues. Be sure to stick to the point. State the reasons you believe the county's appraised value is above market value and/or your property is valued unequally compared to your neighbors.
